Drag Brunch at Different Wrld: A Sinfully Delicious Experience
By Brian Konutko
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Nestled in the heart of West Asheville on ᏣᎳᎫᏪᏘᏱ Cherokee land lies Different Wrld, a vibrant hub of artistry and imagination. Once a month, the venue transforms into a stage for one of Asheville's most unique queer events: a very special Drag Brunch.
This month's theme, ‘Seven Deadly Sins,' promised an enticing blend of sinfulness and sass. To say it ate would be an understatement. Every sequin sparkled with mischief, hinting at the riotous spectacle ahead. As the crowd settled in, the atmosphere crackled with electric anticipation, everyone on the edge of their seats for the show that was about to dazzle them.
Different Wrld, collectively run by a diverse group of Asheville's finest artists, designers, and musicians, radiated an infectious energy that Saturday. With walls adorned by works of local creatives and music setting the ambiance, it was no wonder everyone felt so incredibly welcomed.

The brunch's host, Sev, a seasoned drag queen aptly dubbed the sparkly She-Devil, effortlessly weaved humor and flair into the afternoon, introducing performers representing each deadly sin. From envy to lust, pride to wrath, every act was a delightful play on our human weaknesses.
Newcomers to the drag scene seized the stage with an enthusiasm and authenticity that was really fun to witness. Their fresh takes on the sins, combined with their raw talent, made for moments that were, in a word, gag-worthy.
Being present in the Different Wrld space, it's clear why such events are instrumental in fostering a sense of community. The feeling was there: a collective heartbeat of acceptance, art, and affirmation.
I honestly didn't know what I was getting into, but I'm so glad I brought my camera. These shots? They tell a story of Asheville's queer scene that words can only begin to describe.
With Asheville continuously emerging as a hotspot for unique cultural events, especially in the queer community, gatherings like these only solidify its position. A word of advice? Keep an eye on the calendar for the next Drag Brunch at Different Wrld. You won't want to miss it.
If you're searching for a striking blend of Asheville queer events, look no further than these captures of a remarkable day.
